Policy & Communications has recently released a Request for Proposals for a consultant to complete a wayfinding signage project for downtown Knoxville. Downtown Knoxville is the cultural and entertainment hub of the region, and is increasingly a destination for visitors seeking out unique entertainment, retail and dining opportunities. Downtown has several well delineated districts, each with a unique character and set of attractions. The City recognizes that wayfinding signage is often the first interaction between a visitor and Knoxville's downtown. Good signage can play a major role in conveying an impression of downtown Knoxville as a vibrant and diverse place, well-managed and easily navigated. The purpose of this project is to create a well-designed and consistent signage system with enhanced pedestrian-scale signs, maps, trailblazer signs, KAT trolley signs, and signs directing automobiles to and from parking garages and major traffic arteries. Public participation will be an essential component of this project.
