Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Mission: The mission of the Senior AIDES Program is to enable older persons to work 20 hours per week to earn an average rate of minimum wage, currently $7.25 per hour. The program not only provides income and training for the enrollees, it also contributes invaluable services to the community. Senior AIDES provide an average of 77,000 hours of service to the community each year.

Number of authorized enrollees: 46

Eligibility Criteria: Minimum age of 55, low-income, resident of Knox County

Funding Source: Title V of Older Americans Act administered by the United States Department of Labor, National Senior Citizens Education & Research Center

Grantee and administrative support: Department of Parks and Recreation, City of Knoxville

Training Opportunities for Senior AIDES

Senior AIDES improve and learn new skills through on-the-job training, classroom training, job development services, model training by private sector employers, or a combination of these activities. Recent training activities have included the following: Clerical and general office skills, keyboard and computer literacy training, computerized customer services (e.g., data entry and word processing), geriatric homemaker, and certified nursing assistance.
