Destination Information
The City of Knoxville has launched its new Destination Information program, an effort to inform Knoxville residents about the City's Parks and Recreation facilities; including parks, greenways, community centers and much more.

"There are so many recreational treasures in Knoxville," said Mayor Bill Haslam. "We want to ensure that the citizens of Knoxville know just how much their city has to offer. By making recreational information on our local amenities just a phone call or mouse click away, we hope to accomplish this."

The City of Knoxville's new 3-1-1 Call Center allows the public to obtain recreational information with one phone call. Park reservations, greenway mileage, athletic event updates and so much more can now be obtained simply by dialing 3-1-1.

Knoxville residents can also explore the Parks and Recreation web page on the City's web site at www.cityofknoxville.org/recreation/. This web site features valuable information such as league schedules, game results, greenway mileage (including a greenway lap calculator), directions, and program schedules. Detailed maps of individual parks and greenways are available on this web site, as well.

"We work hard to provide top-notch recreational facilities in Knoxville, and therefore feel it is our duty to inform the public of these amenities," explains Sam Anderson, Senior Director of Community and Neighborhood Services. "After viewing our web site, people will be surprised to find out that the one of the best disc golf courses in the South is five minutes down the road in Victor Ashe Park, or that it's possible to ride your bike all the way from Bearden Elementary School to World's Fair Park."

Additional printed materials such as the Community and Neighborhood Services program guide, and the Knoxville parks and greenways maps provide helpful information that is easy to keep on hand. These free materials may be obtained by calling 3-1-1 or by e-mailing ajones@cityofknoxville.org.

A soon-to-be addition to the Destination Information program will be new descriptive signs for the City greenways. These signs will display maps, mileage and the direction of the greenways, making it easier for pedestrians to navigate through Knoxville. "It's our mission to improve the quality of lives for the citizens of Knoxville," says Parks and Recreation Deputy Director Joe Walsh. "We feel that getting valuable information out there about Knoxville's parks and recreation opportunities does just that."
