Reserve Officer Honored For Service To The Community

KPD View Officer Award Winners View Civilian Award Winners May 13, 2010 - Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen named Reserve Officer Patrick Riggins the 2009 Reserve Officer of the Year for the Knoxville Police Department. Reserve Officer Riggins has been a member of the Reserve Unit since February 2008. Chief Owen said that Reserve Officer Riggins stands out among the unit even though he is relatively new to the program. Since he became a member of the unit, he has continued to display a genuine passion for service to the Knoxville community. In 2009, Reserve Officer Riggins volunteered over 897 hours to the reserve program. Through his services the police department was able to increase crime enforcement throughout the community it serves. Chief Owen said, “Reserve Officer Riggins is always willing to volunteer his time and service to support special community events while taking a proactive role in providing a secure environment for those who participate. The example he has demonstrated goes far beyond the parameters set by the program and raised the bar in defining community service.” Mayor Haslam said, “Reserve Officer Riggins has played a major role in assisting the Reserve Unit to achieve its goal to improve the safety of the community. We congratulate him on a job well done.”
