May 2, 2006 - Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam
and Police Chief Sterling Owen named Ms. Janice Marston the Civilian
Employee of the Month for March. Ms. Marston works in the Management
Services Division and has been with the police department since October
2004. Ms. Marston started her career with the City of Knoxville in
1986.
Chief Owen said Ms. Marston is being honored for exemplary work in
preparing the police department's 2006 - 2007 budget. Ms. Marston
was responsible for compiling the information forwarded to her by
the divisions within the police department and then preparing the
necessary paperwork for submittal. This task also included learning
a new computerized financial program that had never been utilized
for budget reporting.
Chief
Owen said, "Janice would work over and came in on her days off to
ensure the budget was balanced and ready for the submittal process.
She did not hesitate to seek assistance when faced with a problem
and maintained a good working relationship with the Finance Department."
During the budget process, Janice continued to maintain her other
duties and responsibilities and took the time to mentor those under
her supervision on the budget process.
Chief Owen said, "Janice ensured the budget was submitted by
the deadline date and that it was accepted with no errors. She also
maintained her professionalism during this stressful time."
Mayor Haslam said, "Preparing the budget is always a difficult
time for the many departments within city government. We commend
Ms. Marston on her dedication and commitment to her duties and to
the city."
Ms. Marston will receive a signed certificate from the Mayor and
Chief along with a free dinner from Ruby Tuesday Restaurant.
