| DUI Data Collection Effort Earns Employee Special Honor |
September 29, 2005 - Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief
Sterling Owen today named Becky Brack the August Civilian Employee
of the Month for the Knoxville Police Department. Brack is assigned
to the Crime Analysis Unit and has been with the department since
February 1998.
Chief Owen said Brack was tasked with the responsibility of tracking,
analyzing, and reporting DUI data for the department. At the time
of receiving this assignment there was no single location that contained
complete DUI data. To accomplish this task, Brack proceeded to create
a complete DUI database.
Prior
to building the database, Brack audited the entire DUI process to
learn how DUI data flowed throughout the department. Brack then reported
back on the problems associated with the current information flow
and suggested several fixes for the data. Since then, Brack has instituted
several process improvements and continues to meet with the stakeholders
to improve data availability and quality.
Chief Owen said, "Prior to Becky taking on the responsibility
to track DUI data, the Crime Analysis Unit could not report the
data in a timely manner due to the information being stored in three
different locations. Now, DUI data is as complete as it has ever
been. The creation of the new database is due to the tenacity of
Ms. Brack."
Mayor Haslam said, "Having data readily available is crucial
to the operation of any office. Becky has given an extraordinary
effort in managing this project and is commended on her efforts."
Brack will receive a signed certificate from the Mayor and the Chief
along with a free dinner from the Bayou Bay Seafood House.
