Morningside Greenway and Park History
William Mapp and his wife Eva Wiggins Mapp gave up their home on Dandridge Avenue so that Morningside Park could be built. The house had been William Mapp’s home for 63 years.
The 13-foot statue of Alex Haley in the park is the largest statue of a black man in the country.
In 1997, Kimberly-Clark sponsored an all night swing dance-a-thon to raise money for a playground in Morningside Park. The playground was built the next month. |
