New Residents must surrender their out-of-state driver's license, show proof of U.S. citizenship (such as certified birth certificate or passport), verification of Social Security Number (such as card w/signature or W2), and two proofs of Tennessee residency (such as processed mail, rental/lease/purchase agreement, utility deposit receipts, etc.).
If you have lost your current Tennessee license, you will need two pieces of identification such as birth certificate, social security card, passport, or military ID.
All applicants must also have verification of their Social
Security number.
If you are changing your name on your license, proof of the change, such as original, certified court order, marriage certificate or divorce decree is needed.
For a first-time license, you must have a certified birth certificate,
pass a written test concerning the rules of the road, vision test
and a road test. First-time applicants for a driver license and drivers
needing license reinstatements must go to a Department of Safety facility.
