The Training Section is responsible for providing basic recruit training to all new officers, in-service training to current officers each year, as well as providing other specialized training as needed and available to keep officers current in new trends in professional policing. The Training Section is also responsible for providing training for the civilian employees of the department, which includes training for police cadets. In 2002 the Training Section provided training 279 participants for a total of 11,160 hours of training.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

To register for any of the classes offered fill out the enclosed form and fax it to the academy if the course is offered by the Knoxville Police Department. If the class is offered by Walters State or IACP and we are hosting the class please contact the number provided for registration.

Attendance Requirements

Attendance is required for completion of a course offered. You may only miss 20% of any course for emergency reasons. An illness, family emergency, court appearance for courses offered by KPD. Courses offered by IACP or Walters State will be advised upon registration of their attendance policies.

Cancellation Policy

The Knoxville Police Department will allow you to cancel any class. However, please try to notify us as soon as possible.

KPD Cancellation Policy

Should the Knoxville Police Department cancel a class, written notification will be given to all students or their supervisors through departmental communication and/or the appropriate chain of command.
