SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER PROGRAM

Sgt. Tammy Chaney
865-215-8610
tchaney@cityofknoxville.org

The School Resource Officer (SRO) Program is a comprehensive research-based strategy to help deter and prevent school violence. The School Resource Officers are uniformed police officers assigned to five area high schools and seven middle schools within the City of Knoxville to work in partnership with the school personnel and students on a daily basis to provide a safe learning environment.

Youth Program

School Resource Officers also participate in the department's Youth Program. The mission of the Knoxville Police Department Youth Program is to improve the schools and neighborhoods of Knoxville through police-youth partnerships.

Youth Councils

The Youth Councils are established in each of the City's five high schools and seven middle schools. The Youth Council is open to all students who wish to participate, however, students are strongly encouraged to maintain a passing grade point average, clean discipline record and excellent school attendance.

Youth Academy

The Youth Academy is a weeklong, overnight summer camp offered to Knox County school students. D.A.R.E. Officers and School Resource Officers serve as camp counselors.
