Our state of the art training facility houses both a firearms range and driving track. The firearms center houses two 30 point, 50-yard pistol ranges; one 20 point, 100-yard rifle range; as well as a rappelling and sniper tower. The ranges are equipped with electronic targeting systems controlled from the control tower that overlooks all the outdoor facilities. The center is also equipped with two 45-person classrooms and a state of the art computerized firearms training system used for response to resistance situations, officer safety and verbal command training. Also at the firearms training center we have an exceptional indoor shoot house, which allows officers to train in realistic settings with live rounds of ammunition, our shoot house is one of the only indoor shoot houses anywhere in the Southeast United States.
The driving track is like none other in the Southeast as well. It includes a sophisticated skid pad complete with a water filtration system for hydroplane training, large skills area, and a city response course, complete with street signs, markings, and traffic control devices. It also has a roadway to simulate highway and interstate driving that encircles the track. The track is equipped with lighting for night use and has a central control point housed within the four-story control center. A computerized driving simulator, much like those used by aircraft pilots, is also used to advance police driving skills. This facility is used to provide drivers training and education for the community as well as a regional training resource for local, state and federal government agencies.
The main Training Academy is in the Moses Center which is located in the Historic Mechanicsville area of Knoxville. It houses 5 state of the art classrooms with video/audio equipment in each classroom along with a Law library and a computer center housing 21 desktop computers. Classroom training for Police recruits as well as annual in-service training for Officers is conducted in this facility.
