The Criminal Intelligence Unit is tasked with protection for visiting dignitaries, threatened public officials and celebrities, and certain witnesses requiring special security. The Criminal Intelligence Unit also serves as liaison with the U.S. Secret Service whenever one of their protectees visits the Knoxville area. The Unit collects, collates and disseminates information on crime, criminals, and subversive groups.
