PLEASE CLICK HERE

The Knoxville Police Department created the Police Cadet Program to enhance the recruitment of potential applicants for Police Officer who are between the ages of eighteen (18) and twenty-one (21).

The Police Cadet Program is an alternative for those applicants who are not old enough to be employed as Police Officers, yet wish to pursue a career in law enforcement. The program will allow such candidates to be employed in non-enforcement activities, while receiving law enforcement training and attending college under the City of Knoxville’s tuition reimbursement program.

The appointment to the Cadet Program will be made for a minimum of one (1) year to a maximum of four (4) years, depending upon the age of the Cadet. Upon successful completion of the Cadet Program, the cadet will be eligible for employment as a Police Officer. The Cadet Program requires completion of 12 Semester College hours per year with a minimum grade point average of 2.0.

The Cadets have various assignments within the Knoxville Police Department:

  • Bicycle Patrols
  • Parking enforcement/traffic direction at special events
  • Recruitment
  • Sobriety Checkpoints
  • Underage Alcohol Buys
  • Safety Demonstrations
  • Assist Patrol with various assignments
