Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen named Officer Sammy Shaffer the 2005 Officer of the Year for the Knoxville Police Department. Officer Shaffer has been with the department since October 2001.

Knoxville Police Reserve Officer Honored for Service Commitment
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen named Sgt. Lee Ragsdale the Knoxville Police Department's Reserve Officer of the Year for 2005. Ragsdale is the Probation and Parole Program Coordinator with the Knoxville Police Department and has been a member of the Reserve Unit since December 1999.

Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen today named Motor Officer Ron Trentham as the September 2005 Officer of the Month. Officer Trentham has been with the Knoxville Police Department since November 1994.

Mayor Haslam, Honored KPD Chaplains, Chief Owen
Chaplains Honored For Extraordinary Service In Time Of Need
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen today honored three Knoxville Police Department Chaplains for their response to an individual who was victimized while traveling through Knoxville. The Chaplains honored include Chaplain Mike Patty, Chaplain Gerald King, and Chaplain Pamela Neal. Chief Owen said that on Saturday, August 27, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Chaplain Patty was asked to respond to Baptist Hospital West to help assist KPD Officer Dana Crocker. Officer Crocker indicated that a 25 year-old male traveling from Daytona Beach, Florida to Washington D.C. had been assaulted and robbed of all his cash, approximately $200.00, and his credit cards. The victim, who is deaf, was preparing to attend college in Washington D.C.

Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen today named Officer Joshua McAlister the Officer of the Month for August 2005. Officer McAlister has been with the Knoxville Police Department since December 2002.

JULY OFFICER OF THE MONTH

Arrest of Burglary Suspects Earns Officer Special Honors
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen today named Officer John Holmes as the July Officer of the Month. Holmes has been with the department since October 2001. Chief Owen said that on July 12, 2005, Officer Holmes was monitoring traffic entering and leaving the Ridgebrook Apartments as part of his problem solving kit (PSK). Holmes was working to develop solutions to a recent increase in car burglary crimes in the area.

West District Lieutenant and East District Officer Share June Officer of the Month Honors For Robbery and Burglary Suspects Arrest
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen today named Lieutenant Donna Clift and Officer James Cox as the June Officers of the Month. Lt. Clift has been with the department since 1979 and is being honored for the apprehension of an armed robbery suspect. Officer Cox has been an officer for the department since 2002 and is being honored for the arrest of two burglary suspects.

Officer Willson and Officer Neal have been with the Knoxville Police Department since January 2001. Officer Dururvurur is in his first year of service.
