OFFICER OF THE YEAR
Leadership, Performance, and Dedication Earns Officer Special Award
Mayor Haslam, Officer Waggoner, Police Chief Owen
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen named Officer Mike Waggoner as the 2004 Officer of the Year for the Knoxville Police Department. Officer Waggoner has been with the department since November 1974. Chief Owen said Officer Waggoner has always been a leader throughout his thirty-year career.

Reserve Officer Shows Volunteer Spirit
Mayor Haslam, Officer Rader, Police Chief Owen
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen named Reserve Officer Matt Rader as the department's 2004 Reserve Officer of the Year. Reserve Officer Rader has been a member of the Reserve Unit for two years. During 2004, Officer Rader volunteered over 600 hours of his time to the Knoxville Police Department.

LIFE SAVING AWARD
Officers Honored with Life Saving Award for Rescuing Trapped Victim
Mayor Haslam, Officers, Police Chief Owen
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen today awarded the department's Life Saving Award to Officer Todd Strickenberger and Officer Mike Rupe for saving the life of a trapped accident victim. Both Officer Strickenberger and Officer Rupe have been with the department since May 2002. Chief Owen said that on November 6, 2004, officers Strickenberger and Rupe heard a vehicle crash occur near Middlebrook Pike and Loraine Street. Both officers responded to the scene immediately.

Counterfeiting Suspects Arrest Yields Officer of the Month Honors for Three Officers
Mayor Haslam, Officers,  Police Chief Owen
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen today awarded the December Officer of the Month Award to Officer Todd Hardin, Officer Charles Sands, and Officer Brian Bush for their apprehension of two counterfeiting suspects. Officer Hardin has been with the department since August 1998. Officer Sands and Officer Bush have been with KPD since December 1998.

Home Invasion Suspect Arrest, Victims Rescue Earns Officers Special Honors

Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen today named seven officers as the Officers of the Month for November. The officers are being honored for their response to a home invasion in East Knoxville and include Officer Robert Taylor, Officer Nelson Hamilton, Officer Jeremy Maupin, Officer Ryan Acuff, Officer John Williams, Officer Aaron Bowman, and Officer Rodney Townsend.

Arrest of Violent Offenders Earns Officers Award

Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen today named Officers Shane Watson and Phil Jinks as the October Officers of the Month for two incidents that resulted in the arrest of violent offenders. Officer Watson has been with the department since May 2002 and Officer Jinks since May 1999.

Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen today named Officer Mike Waggoner, Officer Robert Hembree and Investigator Steve Still as the September Officers of the Month. Officer Waggoner has been with KPD since 1974. Officer Hembree has been with the department since 1997 and Investigator Still has been on the force since 1995.

Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen named Officer Aaron Bowman and Officer Eric Parks as the August Officers of the Month. Officer Bowman has been with the department since 1998. Officer Parks will complete his first year of service next week.

Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen today announced Officers J.D. Hopkins and Jonathan Chadwell as the June Officers of the Month. Hopkins has been with the department since December 1999. Chadwell, who is in his third phase of the Field Training and Evaluation Program, will complete his first year of service in November.

Drug Seizure Earns Officer Special Award
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Deputy Chief Bill Roehl today named Knoxville Police Department West District Officer Harry McGuffee as the April Officer of the Month. Officer McGuffee has been with the Knoxville Police Department since December 1999 and was previously honored as the November 2000 Officer of the Month.

Teamwork Earns Officers Special Award
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Deputy Chief Gus Paidousis today announced the March 2004 Officers of the Month. Officer Greg Taylor, Officer James Cox, and Officer Pete Franzen share in the award for their apprehension of three suspects caught stealing methamphetamine production products. Officer Franzen has been with the department for 7 years. Officer Cox has been with KPD for 2 years and Officer Taylor is a 25-year veteran.

January officer of the month
Robbery Investigation Nets Two Officers with Special Honors
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Phil Keith today named officers Bradley Cox and John Williams as the January Officers of the Month. Both Officer Cox and Williams have been with the department since August 2000. On January 19, 2004, at approximately 3:42 a.m., Officer Cox and Officer Williams responded to an armed robbery call at the Krystal Restaurant located at 5320 Millertown Pike. The victims did not see a getaway car, but a witness from the neighboring Wal-Mart store indicated they had seen a small white Honda car in poor condition parked behind the Krystal just prior to the robbery.
