To obtain permit:

1. Complete City of Knoxville Pyrotechnic Permit Application [PDF]

2. Complete State of Tennessee Application for Public Display of Fireworks Permit [PDF] and all documentation as required.

3. Provide Bond or Certificate of Liability Insurance for $1,000,000.00 listing the City of Knoxville as the Certificate Holder.

4. Provide detailed site plan and shell summary / event presentation schedule, as also required by the State of Tennessee pyrotechnicians license and exhibitors license.

5. Provide a legible copy of the current Federal Fireworks Permit.

6. Permit fee of $50.00 (cash or check made payable to City of Knoxville). Pyrotechnic Permits are issued on a per performance basis. For multiple days, please contact our office for special instructions.

7. At least thirty days in advance of intended event, submit all above listed documentation and a permit fee to:

The City of Knoxville Fire Marshal will assign a Fire Inspector to monitor ALL pyrotechnics within the City Limits. If the display takes place outside normal operating hours it is the company’s responsibility for overtime payment to the Fire Inspector assigned to monitor the display. An invoice for the overtime will be issued to the pyrotechnic company after all required documentation has been processed through the Fire Prevention Bureau office.

All fireworks displays conducted within the Knoxville City Limits must be permitted.

If you have completed all of the information required above and wish to include the State of Tennessee permit fee the Fire Prevention Bureau office will forward everything to the State Office.

Applicant must agree to observe all applicable federal, state, and NFPA regulations for pyrotechnics displays.
