Transit Center Groundbreaking Ceremony |
With the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, June 9, 2008, the construction of the new Transit Center is officially under way; Mayor Bill Haslam, U.S. representative John Duncan Jr and other officials joined KAT's general manager, Cindy McGinnis, at the future site of the transit center to celebrate the long-awaited start of this project.
When completed, the center will feature a bus platform that spans across the James White Parkway and will provide, among many amenities, a sheltered waiting area for passengers, and a real-time system that will let them know where their bus is and when it will arrive at the transfer center.
The building will also be LEED-certified, which means it will use less energy than the typical building, and will be constructed with sustainable building practices.
