The 30th anniversary of the Clean Water Act occurred on October 18, 2002. This historic legislation has greatly improved our most precious national resource and kept our country strong. President George Bush has officially declared that the Year of Clean Water will be observed starting on October 18, 2002.

President Bush calls upon all Americans to set good examples of environmental stewardship.

Locally, these efforts are coordinated by the Water Quality Forum on behalf of the City of Knoxville, Knox County, and the Town of Farragut local governments, along with other partners such as the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), Ijams Nature Center, UT Water Resources Research Center, KGIS (geographic information systems & mapping), and Knox County Soil Conservation District.

The Water Quality Forum organizes such events as Friends of First Creek, WaterFest, Adopt-A-Watershed, CPR, and River Rescue. In addition, the Water Quality Forum works with high school students and with elementary schools to monitor watersheds.
