Larry Martin
Senior Director of Finance and Deputy to the Mayor
As of June, 2006, Mr. Martin is a retired executive of First Horizon/First
Tennessee.
Mr. Martin joined First Tennessee Bank (Memphis) in 1969 as a Customer
Service Representative and Assistant Branch Manager. He was Senior
Vice President and Manager of Financial Institutions in Memphis
before being named Regional President of the Knoxville Bank in 1987.
With First Tennessee's merger with Valley Bank in 1991 he was named
CEO & Chairman of the Knoxville Bank. In 1997 Mr. Martin was
given statewide responsibility for all First Tennessee financial
centers outside Memphis. In 2001, he became President of Business
Financial Services assuming responsibility for the corporation's
business strategy as well as overseeing the Bank's 4 East Regional
Markets.
In 2004, Mr. Martin was promoted to Chief Operating Officer for
First Tennessee Financial Services with responsibility for all Tennessee
Regional Bank Markets, Merchant Services Processing, Hickory Venture
Capital, Synaxis Group, and the Commercial, Corporate, and Middle
Market Divisions of the Bank.
A native of Jackson, Tennessee he earned his Bachelor of Science
Degree in Banking/Finance from the University of Tennessee - Knoxville.
He completed the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at Southern
Methodist University and the Graduate School of Credit and Financial
Management at Stanford University.
Mr. Martin is currently Chairman of Covenant Health System; The
Family Investment Foundation; and, Vice Chair of the East Tennessee
Foundation. He is involved in other civic and professional organizations
including: United Way of Greater Knoxville, Partnership for Neighborhood
Improvement, The Historic Tennessee Theater Foundation, Church Street
United Methodist Church, Great Smoky Mountain Council Boy Scouts
of America, and Project GRAD. He is past chairman of the Greater
Knoxville Chamber of Commerce; Leadership Knoxville; and, headed
Knoxville's 1995 United Way campaign.
He and his wife Jane have two daughters, Hope (27) and Meg (24).
