Janet Wright Director of Information
Systems
Born in Oak Ridge Tennessee, Ms. Wright is a Knoxville educated senior
level professional with over twenty-five years of computer systems experience.
After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Tennessee with
Mathematics and Chemistry as a major, Ms Wright embarked on a career at
Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Job assignments as a programmer and project
leader for "the Lab" led Ms. Wright to co-author and publish
several articles related to using computers to model environmental effects
and energy consumption.
While working in Oak Ridge, Ms. Wright continued her education and expanded
her technical expertise by completing a Masters degree in computer science
with an emphasis on electrical engineering. Soon after, she left the academic
laboratory environment and embarked on a career in the "real"
world. Immediately after the Three Mile Island nuclear incident, she was
hired by Technology for Energy Corporation to assist in delivering a 20
million dollar computer system that could remotely diagnose and control
a nuclear incident. While on the project, Ms Wright was promoted to the
project engineer and then the project manager and successfully delivered
the complex system to Arizona Nuclear Power.
After the nuclear industry bottomed, Ms. Wright left TEC to become the
thirteenth employee at Perceptics Corporation; an imaging company founded
by Dr. Ralph Gonzalez, University of Tennessee professor. There, Ms. Wright
designed and delivered information management systems for state and local
governments, legal firms, nuclear power plants, and strategic weapons
facilities. After the company grew to close to 200 in size, Ms. Wright
assisted in the acquisition of Perceptics by Westinghouse Corporation.
Ms. Wright left Westinghouse to join Wang Laboratories, the grandfather
of imaging technology. There she reported directly to Don Casey, President
of imaging technology. Using her experience with state and local government,
she served as a liaison to solve issue related to product deliveries of
large imaging systems. Ms. Wright traveled extensively in this effort
and worked with both technical and sales teams. During this time, Ms.
Wright started a consulting business that assisted companies with product
design and marketing.
In January 1998, Ms.Wright joined the City of Knoxville as Information
Systems Director. There, she organized and cultivated the Information
Systems Department into an efficient and effective operation to serve
more than 1200 computer users. Using her experience as a supplier of large
complex information and image-based computer systems; Ms Wright provide
an objective knowledge source to the City to analyze operational processes,

replace key software applications, and provide project management training
to staff.
