| MAYOR'S NEIGHBORHOOD TASK FORCE |
In 2006, Mayor Bill Haslam created the Neighborhood Task Force to suggest ways the City of Knoxville could work better with neighborhoods to provide more effective and responsive government. The Council of Involved Neighborhoods (COIN) selected two members, and each City Council member appointed one person.
After meeting over a six-month period, the Task Force issued a final report in January 2007, recommending that the City create an "office of neighborhoods" to perform a variety of functions aimed at strengthening neighborhoods, enhancing communication between organized neighborhoods and city government, and making government more responsive and efficient.
Today the city’s budget includes funding for the Office of Neighborhoods with a full-time neighborhood coordinator.
The Task Force completed its mission, and some participants agreed to serve on an inaugural Advisory Council to help identify goals and priorities for the Office of Neighborhoods.
