Serving more than three million passengers last year, KAT operates the public bus system for the city of Knoxville.

The bus service is comprised of more than 20 fixed routes, express services, trolleys serving downtown and the university area, transportation for persons with disabilities and services for the University of Tennessee. KAT has a fleet of state-of-the-art buses and trolleys of various sizes which are wheelchair accessible and bicycle rack equipped. KAT offers a variety of special programs including discounted bus passes, Sports Shuttles (to UT home basketball and football games) and active participation in special events.

The Knoxville Transportation Authority (KTA) has oversight responsibilities for KAT. Authority members include Don Sproles, Mary Lynn Holloway, Patrick Roddy, Essie Johnson, Art Carmichael, Brian Simmons, John Sibley, Chris Woodhull and Dr. Walter Williams.
