Brush CollectionClick here to find out when your next brush pickup is scheduled.

Last year the Public Service Department collected over 34,000 tons of yard waste. Service area crews collect brush and other household yard waste every other week from March to October. Brush pick-up is suspended during the annual fall leaf collection season. Please note yard waste setout guidelines:
  • Brush cannot exceed a 6' x 6' x 6' pile.

  • Brush must be kept separate from other trash.

  • Brush should be placed within 5 feet of the street, but not around stationary objects such as mailboxes, fences, parked vehicles, or utility poles or meters.

  • Do not place brush in center medians, islands, or other public property.

  • Brush collection is provided to residential households only. Tree trimmings and cutting debris created by private companies and/or contractors must be removed by the company.

If you have difficulty viewing the brush schedule call 3-1-1 or 865-215-4311.

Open burning is prohibited within city limits, except as provided by the Fire Prevention Code and state and local air pollution control regulations. Knox County residents can obtain a burning permit, by contacting the Knox County Department of Air Quality Management at 865-215-5900.

Christmas tree collection in the City is the same process as for brush collection. After all decorations have been removed, trees should be placed at the street for collection. Click here to learn more about Christmas tree collection and light recycling.
