MAYOR DANIEL T. BROWN
Mayor's Message

First I want to say hello to everyone. I've met some of you while serving as a City Councilman and hopefully I'll be fortunate enough to get to know a lot more of you during the coming year.

It's January and a new year always seems to bring some changes. This year in city government there is a little more change than usual.

Governor Haslam is working in Nashville now and I feel very much honored to have been selected to serve as Knoxville's mayor. I'll try very hard to be a mayor that you are proud to work with.

But some things have not changed. Like my predecessor I'm grateful for the hard work city employees do every day to make Knoxville a great place to live and work. You've had to do more with less during these tough economic times to keep providing the good service our citizens have come to expect. Many of them are grateful too.

This edition of City Works recognizes people who have reached milestones in years of employment with the city and again I thank you for all the things you do to make a difference in the lives of our citizens.

I don't expect too many changes during this year. We'll still offer great services to our neighbors and move forward with all of our existing programs and new ones like citywide recycling. The budget will still be tight but I'm confident that we'll have a great year in the City of Knoxville.

I'm pleased to be here and I look forward to working with all of you to make Knoxville and its neighborhoods even better places than they already are.

Sincerely,
Daniel T. Brown
