The Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) hears appeals of denials of building
permits by the city's Building Inspections Department. An applicant
can appeal the denial when the applicant can request a variance from
zoning ordinance requirements or the denial represents an error in
interpretation of City Code.
Decisions of the BZA can be appealed to City Council followed by Chancery
Court.
Deadline for filing applications to the BZA is typically the third
Monday of each month for the meeting that will be held on the third
Thursday of the following month.
Appointment of Board Members
Five members are nominated by the Mayor
and confirmed by City Council to each serve a term of five years.
Meetings Schedule
Board meets monthly on the third Thursday
at 4 p.m. in the Small Assembly Room of the City County Building.
Pre-Agenda meetings are monthly on the third Thursday at 3 p.m. in
Room 511 on the 5th floor of the City County Building.
