The City's health benefit plan is much more than traditional medical insurance. The only true and lasting solution to the medical insurance crisis is in each individual taking personal responsibility for managing their personal health. The City's health plan is designed to motivate, educate and provide the resources to employees and their family members to do that.

THE CENTER

The City provides on-site medical services through The Center, designed to emphasize education, prevention and self-care. The Center is staffed by Summit Medical Group with medical expertise in fitness, nutrition and chronic disease management. Under a physician medical director, The Center includes a full-time midlevel medical provider who provides treatment of acute injuries and illnesses. The Center also provides annual comprehensive medical exams for uniformed employees, and comprehensive annual medical screenings for non-uniformed employees. The Center provides both one-on-one health coaching and group health classes.

TWO MEDICAL PROVIDER NETWORKS

The City's Medical Insurance Program offers employees a choice of two medical provider networks:

  • BlueCross Blue Shield of Tennessee (BCBST) S NETWORK which includes 88% of Knox County physicians (but does not include Summit Medical Group physicians) and includes all Knoxville area hospitals except Mercy Health Partners hospitals. Monthly premiums are less for the S network.

  • BCBST P NETWORK which includes 98% of Knox County physicians and all area hospitals.

    TWO MEDICAL INSURANCE DEDUCTIBLES

The City offers employees a choice of two medical insurance deductibles: $500 or $1,000

    MY HEALTH MEDICAL PLAN

Employees may choose to participate in the My Health medical plan, which includes lower premiums, reduced out-of-pocket costs and spending accounts in return for commitment to basic wellness and self-care standards. Or employees may choose the Medical Only health plan which includes only basic medical and pharmacy insurance. Monthly premiums are less in the My Health plan.

    PHARMACY BENEFITS

The City's Pharmacy Benefit Manager is Humana. You will need to present your Humana Member Card when filling prescriptions at your selected pharmacy. After Jan. 1, 2012, visit www.cityofknoxvillerx.com for a list of network pharmacies and other Pharmacy Benefit Information.
