KAT Proposes Service Adjustments
Proposed Changes [PDF]
January 8, 2014 - Knoxville Area Transit (KAT) is requesting public input on several proposed service changes. The public is encouraged to review the proposed changes and the Knoxville Transportation Authority will hear comments at their regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. in the City-County Building Main Assembly Room, 400 Main Street.

KATThe proposed changes are summarized below:

  • To reduce congestion and improve pedestrian safety, KAT is proposing that the bus/trolley stops in front of Knoxville Station Transit Center be reduced to trolley stop only. All buses that go by these locations currently load at Knoxville Station on the platform.
  • Route 32 - Dandridge inbound is proposed to use Summit Hill Drive to Hall of Fame into the transit center. Currently, the route turns from Dandridge onto Hill Avenue to Howard Baker Jr. Drive to reach the transit center. That area is served by trolleys.
  • Route 40 - South Knoxville is proposed to be adjusted to use Hedgeapple rather than Chapman Highway. This will allow for safer transfers to Route 45 - Vestal. The Route 45 - Vestal Route timepoint is proposed to change to Hedgeapple and would be adjusted by one minute.
  • Route 19 - Lakeshore/Lonas is proposed to add additional service north on Weisgarber Road to Middlebrook Pike and Dowell Springs.
  • Route 22 - Broadway Saturday schedule is proposed for an adjustment that will allow the bus to arrive at :15 after the hour, allowing passengers to make immediate transfers to buses arriving at that time.

For additional information, visit KAT's website - www.katbus.com - or call KAT at 637-3000. Detailed information is also available at Knoxville Station Transit Center.

Passengers and the public can make comments by:

  • Calling 865-637-3000.

  • Attending the Knoxville Transportation Authority meeting on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in the City County Building's Main Assembly Room, 400 Main Street.

If approved, changes will take effect in May of 2014.
