Investigator Jeff Day is assigned to the Knoxville Police Department Violent Crime Unit/Cold Case Squad and is assigned with the Knox County Sheriff's Department in a combined unit, working closely with the District Attorney's (DA) Office in order to present new evidence and or circumstances in order to clear cases as quickly as possible. He is assigned all of the unsolved homicides that are designated "cold cases" and assists if needed on current homicides. Since being assigned to the Cold Case Squad, he has been able to close several cold cases. Investigator Day's effort, knowledge, and investigative skills not only helps to solve cold cases, but also current cases as well. As if these are not enough, Investigator Day has an additional seven cases that will be presented to the Grand Jury for indictments soon. "It is because of these exceptional efforts to solve the seemingly unsolvable that I recommend him for this special recognition," stated Knoxville Chief David Rausch. "We are very proud of Investigator Day. His determination to solve crimes is a testament to his training, dedication to duty, and the City of Knoxville. He constantly works to raise the bar, not only for himself but for the community as well, and maintains the highest level of honor and integrity. Chief Rausch added, "The Knoxville Police Department appreciates the TACP for recognizing our officer for his commitment to duty, honor and the professionalism of law enforcement in protecting and serving the citizens of Knoxville."

The Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police was formed in 1970 as a professional organization dedicated to the highest ideals of honor, leadership, and integrity to maintain the respect and confidence of their government officials, subordinates, the public, and their fellow members of law enforcement. The association works together to shape policy and provide executive level training to agencies statewide.
