Road and Greenway Closures, Construction this Week
Road Closures
Greenway Detours
May 20, 2013 - Please note the following road and greenway construction scheduled for this week:

  • Clinch Avenue - The block of Clinch Avenue between Gay Street and Market Street will be closed for drain installation for 7 to 10 days, beginning May 20th. Westbound traffic can detour to Church Avenue.

  • Millertown Pike - The Millertown Pike Roadway Improvements Project is scheduled to begin Wednesday, May 22nd. The project consists of widening Millertown Pike to a three-lane section from Kinzel Way to Loves Creek Road. Construction is expected to take six months. Traffic will be maintained at all times, but intermittent lane shifts can be expected throughout the duration of the project.

The new roadway cross section will accommodate three 12-foot-wide lanes, with one of them being a two-way left turn lane. The project will include curb and gutter, a sidewalk along the west side, extension of the existing bridge to provide shoulders, improvements to the bridge rail, and installation of guard rail along Millertown Pike near Loves Creek. The project also provides the addition of a left turn lane on both approaches of Loves Creek Road at Millertown Pike and a new traffic signal at this intersection.

  • Third Creek Greenway - A portion of Third Creek Greenway will be closed all day on Wednesday, May 22nd, to allow for the replacement of a bridge near Painter Avenue off of Concord Street. The existing wooden bridge was washed approximately 20 feet downstream during flooding in 2011 and was temporarily reset until permanent provisions could be made. The new bridge will consist of concrete and steel, expected to better withstand future flooding conditions that occasionally occur along Third Creek during heavy rains. The route of the greenway will be slightly altered to avoid a steep hill that is in the current path to the existing wooden bridge. The path alteration will not change the greenway's mileage, but it will provide a more accessible route for greenway users. Westbound greenway users may detour the closure via the Concord Street entrance of Tyson Park by heading north on Concord Street, turning west onto Sutherland Avenue, and after approximately 0.75 miles, entering the Sutherland entrance of Third Creek Greenway.
