Drainage Project to Begin on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue
Williams Creek Drainage Project [PDF]
City Projects
January 29, 2013 - Construction is set to begin on a project to improve stormwater drainage along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. The work is expected to take eight months and could begin this week, weather permitting. It will require the closure of sections of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue between South Beaman Street and South Castle Street. Drivers should watch for detour signs.

An inadequate stormwater system contributes to periodic flooding along Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. The stormwater system is parallel with the roadway and drains to Williams Creek via a cross drain on South Castle Street at Ashland Drive. To upgrade this system, the existing sidewalks, curb line, roadway, water and gas mains within the limits of the project will also be affected. The $1,484,660 contract provides for construction services to upgrade the storm system and replace all the affected infrastructure.

For more information on this and other City of Knoxville projects, see the City Projects page at http://www.cityofknoxville.org/projects.
