City Agrees to House Seized Horses at Chilhowee Park
March 1, 2012 - The City of Knoxville agreed today to temporarily house about 30 horses at Chilhowee Park, after the animals were seized from an East Knox County farm by the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
Horses at Chilhowee Park
"We're happy to make our agricultural buildings available to these horses, so that they can be well taken care of until new homes can be found for them," said Bob Polk, executive director of the City's Public Assembly Facilities, who supervises Chilhowee Park.

The horses will be kept in buildings used for cattle shows and animal events. It is anticipated that they will not need to stay longer than a few weeks. The horses are being assessed by veterinarians from the University of Tennessee Large Animal Hospital, under the supervision of the Knox County Sheriff's Office Animal Control Unit. Horse Haven of Tennessee is helping provide care for the animals.
