KUB to Close Section of S. Northshore Drive to Thru Traffic Aug.5-8
KUBAugust 5, 2011 - KUB and its contractor will temporarily close a section of S. Northshore Drive to thru traffic between Wilda Place and Kingston Pike as part of ongoing wastewater system upgrades in this area. This closure will go into effect starting at 10 p.m., Friday, August 5, and will run continuously through 7 a.m., Monday, August 8.

Message boards and detour signs will be in place ahead of the work zone to alert motorists to this closure. Access will remain open to area businesses from S. Northshore Drive during this period. There will be no thru access to Kingston Pike via S. Northshore Drive, and traffic will not be able to turn from Kingston Pike onto S. Northshore Drive, during this period. Alternate travel routes that allow motorists to avoid the work zone completely include Westland Drive and Lyons View Pike.

Original construction plans called for this section of S. Northshore Drive to remain open, and ongoing lane reductions to remain in effect while the pipeline work in this area was to be completed via tunneling underneath the roadway. However, due to the recent occurrences of sinkholes and unpredictable subsurface conditions in the area, a full road closure is necessary to ensure the safety of motorists and to allow construction to proceed in a timely manner.

Some listed closures may extend beyond the scheduled times depending on the conditions encountered during excavation and construction. Appropriate traffic control measures will be in place at each location to assist motorists traveling in these areas. Due to the ongoing presence of workers and equipment, motorists are advised to use extreme caution and expect temporary delays in these areas.
