Ace Miller Honored

February 7, 2011 - Mayor Daniel Brown helped celebrate the renaming of Golden Gloves Arena in honor of Ace Miller, the boxing trainer and longtime director of Knoxville's Golden Gloves program during a ceremony Saturday night.

City Council passed a resolution changing the name of the building at Chilhowee Park from the Kerr Building/Golden Gloves Arena to the Kerr Building/Ace Miller Golden Gloves Arena. Council also named the street leading from the park's entrance to the facility "Ace Miller Way."

Both measures recognize Miller for his dedicated work with young people in Knoxville. Miller has led the Golden Gloves program for nearly five decades.

During Saturday night's event Mayor Brown presented Miller with a proclamation making it Ace Miller Day in the City of Knoxville, a street sign and with a large replica of the plaque that will be placed on the building. It's currently on order.
