KUB Places Signs Along Third Creek Greenway for Upcoming Detour

KUB PACE 10 ProjectDecember 2, 2009 - Knoxville Utilities Board and its contractors today placed four signs along the Third Creek Greenway to alert users to a temporary detour route in association with a PACE 10 wastewater collection system project.

The greenway detour will go into effect in early January 2010, when construction begins to replace 2,100 feet of wastewater trunkline along Third Creek. KUB will also construct a 6.5 million gallon wastewater storage tank at the west end of the Kuwahee Wastewater Treatment Plant and build a pump station near where Third Creek empties into the Tennessee River. The small parking lot in that area will also be closed as part of the pump station project. The overall project is scheduled for completion by spring 2011, weather permitting.

The greenway detour, which will be in effect for the duration of the project, will bypass the section of the trail from just east of the University of Tennessee Agricultural Engineering Offices to the spur near Neyland Drive. The detour route will shift the trail to Joe Johnson Drive/Center Drive, then to the existing trail that runs alongside Neyland Drive (see diagram below).

The project signs will be placed in the following locations along the greenway:

• Tyson Park near the Kingston Pike Overpass
• North end greenway trail closure
• South end greenway trail closure (near Neyland Drive)
• Parking area at the south end of the greenway

In addition to the four project signs, smaller detour signs will be placed along the greenway to indicate the route.

A follow-up news release will be issued by KUB Community Relations two- to three days before the detour goes into effect.
