WIVK / Fowlers Christmas Parade Dec. 4

Santa at the Christmas Parade in 2008December 1, 2009 - Enjoy the WIVK / Fowlers Christmas Parade starting at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4.

This year’s parade features nearly 100 different participating groups and organizations and includes performances by dancers, majorettes, and marching bands in addition to an appearance by Santa Claus and his reindeer among other attractions.

Members of the Knoxville-based 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment (Tennessee Army National Guard) and Delta Company of the 4th Combat Engineer Battalion (U.S. Marine Corps Reserve) will serve as Grand Marshals for the parade.

The 278th is preparing for a deployment to Iraq early next year while a platoon from Delta Company will be deployed to Afghanistan in 2010. Another group of Marines with Delta Company returned home to Tennessee earlier this year after completing a deployment in Iraq.

The parade route will be as follows: start at the Knoxville Coliseum, run along W. Church Ave., then right on Gay St., right on Summit Hill Dr., left on Central St., right on Jackson Ave., and will end just past Barley's Taproom and Pizzeria.

Free parking is available in city parking facilities downtown, including the Market Square Garage, Locust Street Garage and State Street Garage after 6 p.m. and on weekends.

The parade will also run live on WVLT VOLUNTEER TV.
