Boomsday Set for Sunday!
Boomsday - Sept. 6, 2009September 1, 2009 - Celebrate 22 years of the nation’s largest Labor Day Weekend fireworks show, complete with festivities, food and entertainment throughout a fun-filled afternoon.

The 22nd annual Chrysler Jeep Boomsday Festival is set for Sunday, Sept. 6 from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Neyland Drive and Volunteer Landing in downtown Knoxville.

This year’s festival will feature Knoxville’s Navy Week, set for September 1-7. Since Knoxville is one of 22 cities chosen for Navy Week in 2009, the Chrysler Jeep Boomsday Festival will honor the event by hosting three live performances by the Navy Freedom Band. The band will perform from a barge floating in the Tennessee River directly in front of the Volunteer Landing steps at 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The festival will also feature the Accelerate Your Life Experience (AYLE) Simulator, which gives participants a look at some of the day-to-day naval operations using actual footage via high-resolution immersive experiences.

Returning this year are the MasterCraft/American Boat Center Rail Jam Demos, which transforms Neyland Dr. into a man-made 30-foot wide and 200-foot long water track where professional wake boarders will skim across the water attempting jumps and turns at 18-22 miles per hour. The demos will take place at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.

Additionally, attendees may enjoy classic festival traditions such as a petting zoo, inflatables and games for children. Various live entertainment and contests will also take place throughout the day.

The jaw-dropping fireworks kick off at 9:30 p.m., choreographed to an original soundtrack produced by Star 102.1 FM.

Admission to the 2009 Chrysler Jeep Boomsday Festival is free to the public with nominal fees for parking, games, food and beverages. The event will air on a special one-hour live broadcast Sept. 6 from 9-10 p.m. on WBIR-TV/Channel 10 and will rebroadcast it from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sept. 7 on 10News2.
