City's Recreation Leagues List March Madness Winners

March 18, 2009 - March Madness may be looming at the collegiate level but here in Knoxville several teams have already earned their championships winning the titles in the city’s recreation leagues.

Winners of the City of Knoxville’s Parks & Recreation City League Tournament include:

OPEN DIVISION TEAM
Boys 8 & under Center City
Youth Boys 10 & under Knoxville Youth Sports
Girls 10 & under West Bearden
Boys12 & under Falcons
Girls 12 & under East Knoxville
Boys 14 & under West Bearden Basketball League
Boys 17 & under Center City Youth Bulldogs

“REC” DIVISION TEAM
Boys 8 & under East Knoxville
Boys 10 & under Northwest
Boys 12 & under East Knoxville
Girls 10 & under East Knoxville

CO-ED DIVISION TEAM
8 & under Fountain City

City basketball tournaments follow a two-month season that begins in December. The City youth tournament winners go on to play the Knox County basketball league winners in March.

The City also announced winners from the City adult basketball tournament:

LEAGUE CHAMPION
Men’s Competitive Game Over
Men’s Rec “AA” Arminda
Men’s Rec “A” Aqua

The city’s Parks and Recreation Department also announced the winners of the 2009 City-County Basketball Challenge winners today. They include:

DIVISION CHAMPION
Boys 8 & under Center City Youth
Boys 10 & under Powell
Girls 12 & under Powell
Boys 14 & under West Bearden Basketball League

“City-County basketball tournaments are a tradition and service that we offer all youth teams,” said Joe Walsh, Director of Knoxville Parks and Recreation. “They are a great way to extend the basketball season and enjoy some competitive fun and exercise.”

The City youth basketball leagues had more than 200 teams with an estimated 2,000 players participated this year.

League sign ups for the 2009/2010 City basketball leagues will begin in October 2009.
