July 8, 2008 - The Wee Course at Williams Creek, a City of Knoxville Golf Course, announced the first annual Million Dollar Shoot Out. Participants are invited to qualify by hitting a target on the driving range and then compete for a million-dollar prize awarded to anyone shooting a hole in one during the finals.

Throughout the seven qualifying weekends, from June14 through July 27, any participant who makes a shot within 25 feet of the hole will qualify for the semi-finals held the morning of August 2. The top five participants closest to the hole during the semi-finals will go on to the final Million Dollar Shootout held 5:00 p.m. August 2.

“Million Dollar Shots” will be sold as two shots for $5.00 or 10 shots for $10.00 and will be available at the Wee Course at Williams Creek and select locations in the Knoxville area. The finalist who shoots a hole in one will win one million dollars and all semi-finalists will receive a consolation prize.

The funds raised from the Million Dollar Shootout will help to support the First Tee program at the Wee Course. The First Tee program is dedicated to providing young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop, through golf and character education, life-enhancing values such as honesty, integrity and sportsmanship.

The First Tee programs are offered at the Wee Course at Williams Creek, an 18-hole, par 3 course on 90 acres of rolling East Tennessee countryside located two miles from downtown Knoxville. The course is open to the public and provides a rewarding but challenging experience for golfers of all skill levels.

The Million Dollar Shootout and the First Tee of Williams Creek are made possible by the generous support of local organizations and businesses. This year’s anchor sponsor, Vulcan Materials Company, presented its underwriting check of ten thousand dollars ($10,000) to the First Tee at Williams Creek Board of Directions meeting on Thursday, May 22, 2008. Vulcan Materials Company is a premier business partner with the First Tee at Williams Creek. Vulcan Materials is joined by this year’s media sponsors WBIR TV-10, Color Central Imaging and iSurfKnoxville.com.
