18, 2008 - The City of Knoxville closed the Jackson Avenue ramp between State Street and Gay Street to traffic Friday after receiving a report that it has structural deficiencies.
That section of Jackson carries traffic from the Old City up to the 100 block of Gay Street.
The ramp will remain open for pedestrian use.
City engineers made the decision after receiving a recommendation from TDOT inspectors to immediately shut down the ramp.
The city is currently studying its options for addressing the situation and expects to have a plan developed by next week.
“We should be able to analyze the extent of the repairs and begin formulating a timeline for implementing those fixes,” said Brent Johnson, deputy director of the city’s engineering department.
