September 19, 2007 - Golfers will have
the chance to play golf, support a children's golf program, and
mentor a child at the Williams Creek Golf Course "Kids Classic"
on Friday, September 21, 2007.
The "Kids Classic" is a tournament in which a team of
three golfers plays with a First Tee youth participant and mentors
the child along the way. The format of the tournament is a double
All proceeds of the tournament will go towards the First Tee program
at Williams Creek Golf Course. The First Tee program encourages
Knoxville youth to get active in the sport of golf while also teaching
them values that may be used in golf and in real life. Project grad
students can participate free in the program.
"It's vital that we invest in our youth," said Sam Anderson,
Senior Director of the City of Knoxville's Community and Neighborhood
Services Department. "The First Tee program is a great way
to get all children involved-despite their circumstances-in a sport
that teaches values they can use for the rest of their lives."
Teams have several ways in which to enter:
1) They can pay $550 for hole sponsorship and team entry. This entry
will include recognition at the hole and a three-person team entry.
2) They can pay $300 for greens fee, cart fee, range balls, lunch,
tee gifts, and drinks on the course.
3) They can pay $250 for a Hole sponsorship, which gives recognition
on a designated tee.
A portion of the entry contribution will be tax deductible.
"The Kids Classic is a great chance for golfers to enjoy
a challenging game on this scenic par 3 course and to give back
to the community," said Diondre Jackson, Director of the Williams
Creek Golf Course. "This tournament is all for the kids, but
it's rewarding for everybody."
Jackson added that tournament participants would receive goody
bags and a dri-fit polo shirt. Other prizes will be distributed
at the tournament, including the grand prize of a one-year membership
to the Williams Creek Golf Course for each member of the winning
