January 3, 2007 - The Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Commission invites you to honor the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. and the achievements of MLK Honorees at the 2007 King Week Celebration.

January 10 NOON Interfaith Prayer Service at Second United Methodist, 1524 Western Ave. with Rabbi Beth Schwartz of Temple Beth El. A light repast to follow.
January 11 8:30 AM Leadership/Diversity Symposium at the Knoxville Marriott. Panel discussion featuring community leaders sharing their thoughts and ideas of how communities can better come together in peace. A single $35 ticket covers both the symposium and luncheon.
January 11 NOON Leadership/Diversity Awards Luncheon, Knoxville Marriott Hotel, hosted by Robin Wilhoit, WBIR-TV. Keynote speaker: Rev. Dr. Jeremiah Wright of Trinity United Church of Christ, Chicago, IL. Awards presented for Education, Advocacy, and Business. A single $35 ticket covers both the symposium and luncheon.
January 12 11 AM Groundbreaking ceremony on TVA and Knoxville's Habitat for Humanity (KHFH) house to honor legacy of Dr. King at 1711 Cathedral Ave. in KHFH's October Woods Subdivision off Rutledge Pike, I-40 exit #392.
January 12 7-9 PM Panel discussion, "Materializing the Dream: Overcoming Racism, Materialism, and Poverty," at the Beck Cultural Exchange Center, 1927 Dandridge Avenue. Lead sponsor Oak Ridge Environmental Peace Alliance.

Youth Symposium, Vine Middle School, 1807 Martin Luther King Blvd. Featuring Kenya Jordana James, found and editor, "Blackgirl" Magazine.
January 14 3 PM Regal Entertainment Group presents Stars on Stage featuring Bill Cosby. The event is a fundraiser for the Tennessee Theatre. Tickets are required. For more information or for ticket pricing, call 865-684-1200. The show is a sanctioned event of the MLK Commission's celebration. More info at TennesseeTheatre.com

January 14 7 PM A Night of the Arts at Knoxville College. "Peace by Piece" is a musical dramatization from the perspective of an elderly woman's experience in the civil rights struggle.
January 15 10:30 AM Memorial Parade, beginning at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.
January 15 NOON Memorial Service, Greater Warner A.M.E. Zion Church on Magnolia Avenue. Keynote speaker: Rev. Dr. Riggins R. Earl, Jr., professor, Christian Social Ethics and Theology, Interdenominational Theological Center, Atlanta, GA.
January 15 6 PM Holiday celebration with Knoxville Symphony Orchestra at Knoxville College. Includes traditional, sacred and gospel music with the Knoxville Symphony Chamber Orchestra, the MLK Holiday Celebration Choir, and featuring Debi Jo Parton, cousin of world renowned and East Tennessee native Dolly Parton.
