October 16, 2006 - Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen today named officers Brad Boruff, Brandon Glover, Adam Moore, and John Williams the Officers of the Month for August 2006. Officer Boruff has been with the department since November 2003. Officer Glover and Officer Moore have been with KPD since October 2004 while Officer Williams has been with the department since August 2000.

Chief Owen said that on August 7, 2006, Officer Williams and Officer Boruff responded to two armed robberies in South Knoxville. The first robbery occurred at approximately 3:07 a.m. at the Chevron Station located at 615 Sevier Avenue. The second robbery occurred at approximately 4:36 a.m. at the Kenjo Market located at 3644 Sevierville Pike. A witness to the first robbery was able to provide a good description of the suspect along with information that indicated the suspect possibly lived in a nearby halfway house.

Mayor Haslam, Officer Terry, Chief OwenThe two officers responded to that address where they looked at pictures of the residents. One resident's picture matched the description of the suspect. That resident was missing along with another resident's vehicle. The two officers had the description of the potential suspect and the suspect's vehicle broadcast to the other officers.

Officers Glover and Moore began circulating the area for the suspect. The suspect's vehicle was located in the driveway of 721 Johnathan Avenue. When the two officers approached, the suspect fled on foot and resisted arrest. After a struggle with the two officers, the suspect was taken into custody. A search of the suspect's property revealed the stolen cash along with crack cocaine. The suspect, Richard Carringer (DOB 12/25/62), was charged with fleeing, resisting arrest, two counts of armed robbery and possession of Schedule II drugs.

Chief Owen said, "This suspect has a lengthy history of property crime convictions. Each time he has been placed on diversionary programs, both probation and parole, he has re-offended. We commend these officers for taking this career criminal off the streets."

Mayor Haslam said, "We thank these officers for all they do to help keep our citizens safe."
The officers will receive a signed certificate from the Mayor and Chief along with a free dinner from the Bayou Bay Seafood House.
