06/03/05 - City seeks proposals for South Knoxville waterfront master plan
04/12/05 - Opportunities exist on South Knox waterfront
July 19, 2005 - Eight teams have submitted qualifications and proposals to the City of Knoxville to create a South Waterfront Vision and Action Plan that will set the framework for future development and investment in the area.

The proposals are available for review at the following locations:

  • Metropolitan Planning Commission's Library located in the City County Building
  • South Knoxville Branch Library at 4500 Chapman Highway
  • Boys & Girls Club on Maryville Pike
  • Downtown Library
  • City's Web Site

The City expects to select a firm in September.

A feasibility study commissioned by the City and the East Tennessee Community Design Center recommended a master plan be developed that builds upon the Metropolitan Planning Commission's sector plan, neighborhood plans and current development activity and include extensive public involvement.

The South Waterfront Vision and Action Plan will address such issues as land uses and zoning; urban design guidelines; transportation; public access to the waterfront; and archeological surveys.
